Corpus Christi in Kraków

Corpus Christi is old polish religion holiday. Instituted for remembrance of Last Supper and consecration od bread and vine. First time celebrated in 1320 at Kraków diocese. In 1420 on synod in Gniezno implement this holiday nationally.



Every year that day all city came on Wawel Hill. This is a start point of big procession. Procession come across whole old city and stop at Mariacka Basilica. In procession take part: nuns, priests, craftsmen and different guilds. But the most important is archbishop who holding monstrance under gold canopy. And rest people from around the city. Priest censing archbishop by incense. Crow listen the Holy Bible and happiness is in the air.
